Bauchops Hill is a genuine working sheep and beef station in the spectacular Mackenzie Country of New Zealand. More than just a place to stay, it’s a place to experience authentic high-country farming, breathtaking landscapes and warm country hospitality.
Our family has proudly cared for this land for three generations. Today, alongside running a busy farming operation, we welcome guests from around the world to share a small part of our everyday life. Whether you’re staying in one of our accommodation options, joining a farm tour, or simply enjoying the peace and quiet of the countryside, we hope you’ll leave with unforgettable memories of Bauchops Hill.
Our Story
The name Bauchops Hill has a proud New Zealand history, taking its name from Colonel Arthur Bauchop, a distinguished New Zealand military leader. Our family’s connection with the station began in 1963, when Frank and Rita Eason purchased the property and laid the foundations for what Bauchops Hill is today.
The next generation, Ivan and Nora Eason, continued to develop and care for the station, building a respected high-country sheep and beef farming business while strengthening the station’s reputation as a well-managed and sustainable property.
Today, Dion and Lou Anderson proudly continue that legacy alongside their four sons, representing the third and fourth generations to call Bauchops Hill home. Together, they are committed to preserving the values of hard work, genuine hospitality and responsible farming while preparing the station for future generations.
Farming has always been at the heart of Bauchops Hill, but like many New Zealand family farms, we’ve also had to adapt. By welcoming guests to stay with us and experience life on a genuine working high-country station, we’ve been able to diversify our business while continuing to care for the land, protect our family heritage and ensure Bauchops Hill remains a thriving farm for generations to come.

The people behind Bauchops Hill are just as much a part of the experience as the mountains, sheep and working dogs.
Bauchops Hill is more than a working sheep and beef station—it’s our family home.
We’re Dion and Lou Anderson, and together with our four boys we’re proud to continue the legacy started by previous generations.
Every day is different on the farm. Depending on the season you might find us mustering sheep with our working dogs, feeding cattle through winter, preparing for shearing, or welcoming guests from around the world.
One of the things we enjoy most is sharing life on a genuine New Zealand high-country station. Whether you’re joining a farm tour, staying in one of our accommodations or simply stopping to enjoy the scenery, we love helping visitors experience rural New Zealand.
Every visit is different, but chances are you’ll meet Nigel the goat, our friendly alpacas, curious sheep, Angus cattle, hardworking farm dogs and maybe even a newborn lamb depending on the season.

A Working Farm Every Day
Located near Burkes Pass, Lake Tekapo and Fairlie, Bauchops Hill Station offers visitors the opportunity to experience authentic high-country farming in the heart of New Zealand’s Mackenzie Country.
Bauchops Hill is first and foremost a working sheep and beef station. Throughout the year, the rhythm of the farm changes with the seasons—from lambing and calving through to shearing, winter feeding and mustering.
Our flock of sheep, Angus cattle and hardworking farm dogs are at the heart of daily life. Guests may see tractors feeding stock, dogs moving sheep, or the team preparing for shearing. Every visit offers something different because no two days on a working farm are ever the same.
